Tonights office - in the Emporio alla Pace

To continue with the weeks theme of working from cafe-bars-with-snacks, I'm working on the edit of our film from Emporio alla Pace in the centro storico. The draw here is the comfy red plush armchairs (that you cant see from this picture but I am sitting in) and the laid back atmosphere of low back ground music and you can here the action in the front bar area but still have a booksy work area back here. Now back to that edit. Wi-fi work heaven.

Aperitivi with Snacks - L'Oasi della Birra

I've now got the hang of these aperitivo buffet bars, fill a plate of tasty delights to accompany your wine. Tonights choice, L'Oasi della Birra in Aventine sets a high bar, with several small interconnecting rooms and and an outdoor tables in Piazza Testaccio. Gives such unsophisticated gourmands as I am a chance to sample dishes we would never know how to order and experience new tastes. Like a taster menu.

At the Galleria Borghese

When I asked this Mother and daughter about easy access to the Galleria, their comments were positive. When asked about Rome as an age friendly city however, they said getting around as an older person was 'difficult'.

Thank you Giuseppe

There were mixed feelings about the Maxxi but we all agreed that Giuseppe was an incredibly helpful and patient guide. Posted by Kezban.

A week in Rome: some highlights from our first week

First night pizza nerves?
On our first evening in Rome, Kez and Donald look warily at their huge pizzas, but proved equal to the task.

We struggled to finish the dessert

And there was the work of course, here Dario, Barbara, Kez and Margaret are standing in the courtyard after a meeting with the Performare training centre.

And some of us have even been here. This is Donald's great photograph of the Colosseum

Halo from Rome

I must have done something saintly recently to have been offered this wonderful volunteering opportunity in Rome. It is already proving to be a great learning experience as well as letting us witness the immense beauty of the city of which the church of Santa Maria de Maggiore is just one example.

ps The saintly figure looking over the balcony is Donald, our earthly engineer.
