Six volunteers from the UK will spend March 2014 living in Rome and this is the record of their stay. We are taking part in the Evolve project (European VOLunteering Venture), a partnership between UK-based Wise Owls and Italy-based Atdal 40+, both organisations which help older workers return to work or access learning. Funded by the EU Grundtvig Life Long Learning Programme the Evolve project is the exchange of 6 volunteers to work in their partner’s organisations and cities.

Disused gasworks spark the interest of our travelling engineer
The backdrop to the ATDAL offices - a disused gasworks. Old jobs gone, where are all the new ones?
On page 75 of this e-book (copy and paste the above link in your browser) you will find this gasworks mentioned and explained. Near the area shown in the photo, the central offices of the company supplying methane gas to Rome are also located, and the new offices where employees still work are close to old buildings like the ones photographed (for a short history of this company read: http://www.hoovers.com/company/Societ%E0_Italiana_per_il_Gas_pA/stjsyi-1-1njhxk.html ) ATDAL offices are temporarily located in the headquarters of Fondazione Di Liegro in via Ostiense 106, and many of the Evolve "indoor" activities take place there.
